Travel diary of John Hartwell Cocke [manuscript] 1826 Feb. 28-March 2.

Cocke gives an account of a trip up the Schuylkill River from Philadelphia to inspect the Union Canal, about which he relates a great many statistics. He describes a newly discovered coal bed found near a tunnel above Lebanon. The book also contains a household inventory, 1854-56 [15 p. ms.], a tiny household and garden account book 1869-86 [22 p. ms. 12 cm.] -- Lectures, ca. 1830-40, on astronomy by Charles Bonneycastle at the University of Virginia [53 p. ms. 20 cm. 1/2 leather bound]. The remainder of the volume is filled with personal and household accounts, 1851-61, possibly kept by Arthur Lee Brent.
